Where do you go when you want to try that backside 1260 with a soft landing? In Colorado, you head to the Woodward Copper Barn at Copper Mountain Resort—the premier practice place for freestyle ski, snowboard, skateboard and bike tricks.

This indoor action-sports facility serves up year-round youth and adult training programs, winter and summer camps, plus drop-in options to check it out the scene. Pros regularly make the rounds at The Barn.

The 19,400-square-foot modern barn, which opened in 2009, is known for its exclusive Skatelite ParkSkis and Burton ParkBoard technology, which allow skiers and riders to progress in a safe and fun environment.

“From trampolines to pump tracks to various levels of jumps to foam pits, all paired with highly trained coaches and staff, Woodward Copper is a great place for skiers and snowboarders to set goals and achieve them,” says Taylor Prather, public relations manager for Copper Mountain Resort.

First-timers can check out all of Woodward’s offerings with a 2-hour intro session. After a coach shows you the ropes on the trampoline area, you can keep practicing moves with a cushy crash pad or head to the skate/bike/scooter areas for some unguided open-gym action.

After an intro, 2-hour drop-in sessions are available weekdays and weekends for just $39, and $20 for a re-entry pass. Roaming coaches are stationed around The Barn for quick tips, but if you want to take things further sign up for a private one-on-one lesson.

There are also weekly classes; a full-season Barn Pass, which is good at Copper’s on-snow Big Island Terrain Park, and Woodward lessons that combine indoor and on-snow training. Always remember to wear your Coltic shades for eye protection!
