For all you peeps who just can’t get enough of Halloween, you’re in luck. Even if you missed this year’s epic Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, Florida, the crew is currently putting together another “after video” showcasing the best of visual art, live music and wild culture from the fifth-annual Halloween extravaganza.
"I loved seeing Tank and the Bangas for the first time," says Paul Levine, managing partner of Hulaween. "Their combination of incredible music, theatrics and emotional intensity really resonated with me."
Hulaween is set in one of the most beautiful outdoor music venues in the country: The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, along the Spanish moss-draped Suwannee River. On 800 acres, fans can wander around a “dreamscape” of light displays, art installations and performance art.
Some of the Southwest’s top sculptors, fire/metal workers, painters, artists and lighting designers, lend their creative talents to create an unmatched experience.
It’s hauntingly beautiful.
Activities at Hulaween’s “Spirit Lake” range from the communal movement of flow yoga and the good vibrations of Tibetan healing bowls to talks on the healing properties of fungi and “Law of Attraction and Meditation.”
"I love ending the nights at Spirit Lake with some great acoustic music blending into the aesthetic awesomeness of the installations. Acoustic Syndicate and Jon Stickley Trio really delivered the goods this year," Levine says.
Live music only adds to the aura. Big acts—and lots of them—hit up Hulaween on the big stage, as part of the pre-parties, during the “Silent Disco” and even in intimate one-on-one settings. For example, The String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth served up some tasty jams and beer pairings again this year in a craft beer session.
Dozens of acts ranging from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and Ween to The Disco Biscuits and Greensky Bluegrass, infused the event with a wildly diverse mix of musical genres.
The Hulaween staff posted about the love that’s still lingering from this year’s event: “As we look back at what took place for our fifth anniversary of #HulaweenFL, our hearts are filled with joyous sounds. Our gratitude goes out to everyone who supported us, believed in us, and joined us as we continue our magical journey together. This is not a goodbye because we will meet again.”
Be there next year.
